St. George Church
The building of this church was started during W.E.Phillips term as Governor in 1817 and completed during Bannerman's, the next year. The original Madras-stile flat roof was unsuited to the climate, and was thus changed to a pitched roof in 1864. During the Second World War, the church structure was only slightly damaged but the interior was badly looted. The building was later restored and almost all the furnishings replaced- the only original items are the font and the bishop's chair. There are also a number of memorial tablets laid in the church walls and floor.(from SGTP by KSN)

Instead of platforms or trains it had administrative offices, a ticketing booth and a Railway Restaurant with Bar and Grill. The clocktower greeted those who approched the Island by sea, or alternatively, presented the last sight of George Town for those who sailed away.(from SGTP by KSN)
